IL FUTURO DEL MONDO PASSA DA QUI - CITY VEINS
by Andrea Deaglio
the future of the world goes from here - city veins A few kilometers from downtown Torino, there is an area where rivers flow together; here, the fog dominates the landscape and the unpaved streets lose their form, eaten away by the damp that rises from the river. This area is inhabited by men and women like Angelo, Gerardo and other farmers who for years have cultivated this land and now claim ownership over it; others like Roky, Darius and Jasmina, who live together with five hundred other people in a camp on the banks of the river; Frida, who comes here in search of heroin; or Reno, who has recently lost both his home and his job. “One autumn day I took a photograph from a bridge in the suburbs of my city. A natural landscape traversed by a big river. Each new shot revealed new details, giving the sensation that something inside there was breathing and pulsing, hidden away from the rest of the world. We captured the thoughts and the words of the people who cross and live on this land, bringing them onto the screen with absolute accuracy, suspending them above the area.”
