inside america Hanna High School in Brownsville, Texas, a small town a few kilometers from the Mexican border, is a microcosm in which small everyday tragedies take place. It is populated by cocaine-addicted cheerleaders, patriotic students enrolled in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, members of violent gangs and young Mexican girls in search of a husband. But everybody has something in common: every morning they swear their allegiance to the American flag and dream of a beautiful house with a white picket fence and a fancy car. These hopes are destined to collide with a very different reality once they leave school. “I know what means to live in Brownsville. I directly know the people and their tragedies. Telling their stories has been an indispensable mission for me. With this film, that talk about six teenagers during their senior year at the Hanna High School, I narrate the tragic stories I witness.”
