lament A man is picking his way among the gravestones in an old cemetery. He is holding a yellow flower in his hand and when he comes to a particular tomb, he begins a long monolog which reveals his desperate existential condition. The young man remembers moments of lighthearted happiness and bursts of anger, as he thinks back to some of the moments he spent with the woman he loved. These memories mix reminiscences and fantasies, revealing his role as the eternal unrequited lover, until he finally seems to become serene, lies down on the tomb and closes his eyes. “The theme of this short is love. And death. Eros as a magnificent impulse which brings ecstasy and satisfaction but which has two faces. The moment passion crosses the line of rationality, or rather, becomes a maniacal impulse characterized by the unbalancing of equilibriums, distorted projections are created about the object or recipient of the sentiment. Crises arise that could lead to thanatos, death, or rather, the final step, the extreme choice that (apparently) makes it easier to still that tangle of thoughts which grips the corrupt and passionate id.”

Mauro Paglialonga
Mauro Paglialonga (Ravenna, Italy, 1982) graduated from the Dams in Bologna and then studied audiovisual language at the University of Valencia, plastic and scenic arts at the Academia superior de artes de Bogotà (Colombia) and attended a course on video digital manipulation at the Escuela internacional de cine y television of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba. Since 2000, he has created several projects, among which music videos, trailers, video art and short films. His first encounter with staging happened thanks to the theatre company Teatro delle albe in Ravenna. He currently lives in Berlin where runs a laboratory for development and editing of 16mm and Super8 film.
