by Massimiliano Carboni
Country: Italy
Year: 2010
Duration: 75'

rcl - reducted working ability

Paolo Rossi arrives in Pomigliano d’Arco with a small troupe to scout locations for a film about the liberation of the working class, which he intends to become the first film of a new genre, “civil surrealism.” The attention of the entire country is focused on the town because of the referendum on the contract Fiat signed with the unions. The protagonist meets three important representatives of the city – the mayor, the parish priest and the union leader – and participates at a dinner with the workers to understand what an assembly line is really like.

“The idea behind this film is to tell the stories of the people in a way that goes beyond the narrow language used in journalistic investigations. Great importance was given to the images of the landscape and the streets of Pomigliano d’Arco. The protagonist dialogs with the troupe and the people he meets on the streets, but he also speaks directly into the camera. The image I tried to capture is as spontaneous as possible and the film language is a synthesis of fiction, documentary and reality show.”
