good morning isfahan Iran, 2009. On the eve of the June presidential elections, the expressions on the faces of the Iranians reveal hope and fear for the elections that will reconfirm Mahmud Ahmadinejad in power. “Each time I returned to Iran, the city where I was born, I would take photos of the inhabitants, my family, the landscape and, in this way, I would find my country once again. One day, as I was walking in the mosque’s courtyard, two girls came up to me and asked me to take their photo; I could feel their desire to travel through that image. This is how I got the idea for the film: I decided that I would photograph the people in public areas and film this process. The idea wasn’t so much to make a documentary on Iran as, rather, to show how people still have desires and how life continues even under a dictatorship. What interests me in documentaries isn’t the transmission of concepts but the telling of stories, starting with the people and the situations they live.”
