the last exorcism When the Reverend Cotton arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of the family Sweetzer, he expects to perform just another routine exorcism on a disturbed religious fanatic. Cotton and his crew plan to film a confessionary documentary of this exorcism to expose the practice as a fraud. But upon arriving at the farm, it is soon clear that nothing could have prepared him for the true evil he encounters there. He must find a way to save the girl possessed before it is too late. “What I love about possession is that it’s not an external enemy. But because there is no real threat, it’s inside of someone that you love and want to protect, the battle is a much more complicated one. It’s much more interesting. It’s a metaphor for disease, and rape even, that’s probably more often a young girl. It’s just horrific where you feel so helpless and your protagonist feels so helpless so you immediately have a great basis for drama.”

Daniel Stamm
Daniel Stamm (Hamburg, Germany, 1976) went to film school and studied screenwriting at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuertemberg in Ludwigsburg. After a work for German television and a documentary on Nick Cave, he moved to Los Angeles and graduated from the American Film Institute’s Directing Program. After he made some short films, in 2008 his first feature film A Necessary Death premiered at South by Southwest Film Festival before winning the Audience Award at AFI Fest later the same year.
