third star James is terminally ill and would like to live the short time he still has to the fullest. He decides to go to the east coast of Wales with Miles, Davy and Bill, his best friends. Each one of them thus has the opportunity to reflect on their own existence. Miles has to accept the idea that his friend is dying; Davy feels he must be near his companions in their moment of need; while Bill sees the trip as a chance to get away from his increasingly oppressive daily life. “I loved that this film was a ‘walking road movie’ which is a unusual take on the road movie genre. Over the past few years I’ve been sent a lot of scripts but none have resonated quite like Third Star. The content and style suits my sensibility in terms of the types of stories I want to tell and why. The isolation was an important aspect in this film. It’s a small film about big ideas.”
