vanishing on 7 th street A sudden blackout hits the city of Detroit. As dawn breaks on the following day, the streets are littered with piles of empty clothing and abandoned cars and the city is at the mercy of disturbing and frightening shadows. The only survivors seem to be Luke, Paul, Rosemary and James and they have found refuge in an old bar with a gas-run generator and a supply of food. But the lights are starting to go dim in the bar and they have to find an alternative light source and a way out of the city before it’s too late. “The darkness itself is not necessarily what is frightening. It’s what the darkness is hiding. When something is veiled by darkness, we can’t describe it and we can’t intellectualize it. What we can’t see becomes what we fear the most. It goes back to the days when cave bears and saber-toothed tigers were waiting to pounce on us. It’s probably genetically encoded”.

Brad Anderson
Brad Anderson (Madison, CT, USA, 1964) worked as a projectionist after graduating from Bowdoin College in Maine. After attending the London Film School he worked for PBS and directed episodes of The Shield and The Wire. His films have varied from Sundance Film Festival audience favorites Next Stop Wonderland (1998) and Happy Accidents (2000) to darker films such as Session 9 (2001), The Machinist (2004) and Transsiberian (2008).
