JEONJU DIGITAL PROJECT 2011: ALLER AU DIABLE

A portrait of an alaku, a member of the Maroon people, originally from the western coast of Africa but who survived for four hundred years in the forest after escaping the violence of Dutch domination and slavery.

“I was eager to participate to the project but I was worried to start late in the schedule; anyway I believed it is a great opportunity. The kind of film I was going to shoot was a challenge with our budget; we were going to French Guyana and Surinam to meet a famous goldigger, a man with a bad reputation but a great heart, great skills, a lot of humour. My intention was not exactly a documentary. It was linked to a fiction character.”
