Jess is eighteen years old; his second cousin, Moss, is twelve. They live on a tobacco plantation in rural western Kentucky, without the support of their families or the companionship of friends of their age. They can only count on each other. During the summer, an adventure brings them face to face with their deepest secrets and hopes, but also with isolation, solitude and an uncertain future. “There is something extremely visceral about the humid nights and oppressively hot days of a Kentucky summer, which feels at first like it will last forever, but which, ultimately, seems to come to a sudden end without warning. Jess and Moss are 18 and 12, respectively. Clay Jeter
Clay Jeter (Clarksville, TN, USA, 1982) began acting as a child and had a small part in an episode of the TV series Walker Texas Ranger. He gave up studying engineering at MIT to attend the film school at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After finishing college he went on tour with the Brooklyn rock band The Hold Steady, during which time he shot his first documentary, A Positive Rage. He then worked as co-director of photography on Bouncing Cats, a documentary about break dancing in Uganda, after which he returned to his family’s tobacco farm in western Kentucky to shoot his first feature film, Jess + Moss.
