29° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL
ONDE: MEDIOMETRAGGI E CORTOMETRAGGI
SON OF A GUN
by Antoine Barraud, Claire Doyon
New York, the body of a girl lies on the sidewalk in a puddle of blood under the eyes of the people walking by. Meanwhile, next to the port docks, a man was murdered and his body lies on the asphalt. There are many dead people in town because many have decided to enact their murder. “Weegee’s pictures inspired us for the movie: in particular the American photographer from the 1930s and 1940s made us want to use Super8 and New York. His dreadful and shocking pictures of crime scenes deeply impressed at the time and still convey a startling and rather upsetting mood nowadays. The dead corpse of outlaws, gangsters, petty criminals, hobos or victims of accidents are flashed by a brutal light, which enhances the spectacular, fictional character of the scene. The flash becomes a spot light, the posters and the sidewalk in Manhattan become the theatre of the stories you can imagine.”
