Hall Baltimore is a horror novel writer who has lost his inspiration. During a promotional tour he winds up in a small town overwhelmed by the death of a little girl killed by a wood stick stuck straight into her heart. That same night he receives the visit of young and mysterious V. Finally Baltimore, who appears to be overwhelmed by the supernatural and the dreamlike, will have to deal with the phantoms of his past, before reaching the truth. “A year or so ago, I was in Istanbul in Turkey. The night I had a particularly vivid dream with a setting that was not unlike the American tradition of stories I loved (by Nathaniel Hawthorne or Edgar Allan Poe). Suddenly the call to prayer poured in from a nearby mosque, nearly knocking me out of bed and I thought: ‘Oh no, I’ve got to sleep.’ Of course I never was able to get back to that dream, but at least I was able to dictate the fragment of it into a recorder. That was the germ of the story that became Twixt.”
