VERGISS DEIN ENDE

WAY HOME
by Andreas Kannengiesser
Country: Germany
Year: 2011
Duration: 94'

Klaus is handicapped and completely dependent on his wife Hannelore, who every day takes care of him, non-stop. One day, the woman, who is worn down by this relationship of total dependence, decides to go to the Baltic Sea and accepts the hospitality of Günther, a next-door neighbor. Her son Heiko, who has no idea where his mother is, thus finds himself taking care of his father all by himself for the very first time. In the meantime, Günther is helping Hannelore deal with her interior drama: it’s time for her to start a new life.

“After having read the piece, I knew after a few minutes that I was eager to make this film. However many questions arose. Why home care, why having responsibility for providing care? What is my opinion on the topic? I could answer that it is a socially relevant topic, that I’m of the opinion that it is underrepresented in the media or that the main thought of a woman running away from giving care appealed to me. Yet, that would only be one side of the coin. It is a family story. I can find myself in it.”
