29° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL
FESTA MOBILE: PAESAGGIO CON FIGURE
VON DER VERMÄHLUNG DES SALAMANDERS MIT DER GRÜNEN SCHLANGE
by René Frölke
The Baltic Sea. Jürgen works as a waiter on the beach but he is also a self-taught artist. Edeltraud, his mother, talks about a trip that began a long time ago and that left an indelible mark on the story of her life. Günter, his father, provides a silent backdrop. What emerges is the portrait of a family characterized by dreams, traumas, setbacks and new startups, a nucleus held together with strength and determination. “Initially I wanted to make a film about a young man. His name is Jürgen. He paints. He is an artist. Once Jürgen dreamt of walking into a big dark forest. When he woke up he was standing in the sea, the water up to his knees, right in front of his house. Later it turned out to be a film about a family. About three people. How they are connected, what makes them a family and how all of this is connected to the art of this young man. That’s what I have tried to explore. It is a fragmented portrait. Tracing vestiges not intending to reach the end of a line but as an infinite process.”
