Sogo Ishii

Ishii Sogo (Fukuoka, 1957) directed his first 8mm feature film when he was twenty-one. Nikkatsu bought the rights to it, but kept its 35mm remake out of distribution. Ishii continued his career as an independent action-film director who often attracted the attention of the large Japanese movie studios. In 1985 he made Gyakufunsha kazoku, which won first prize at the Salsomaggiore Film Festival and was distributed in numerous European countries.
