A man is traversing the Indian Ocean on his 12-meter yacht. After he collides with an abandoned container, he discovers that his onboard equipment is out of order and he is left to his own devices. A terrible storm puts his life at risk and proves to be a harsh test of his navigating abilities. Putting his trust in his maps and years of experience at the helm, he finds himself battling the elements to save himself and get back on course.

J.C. Chandor

J.C. Chandor (Ohio, USA, 1974) grew up in New Jersey and studied at the College of Wooster, where he graduated in 1996. He directed commercials for the next fifteen years. After debuting with the short Despacito (2004), in 2011 he directed his first feature film, Margin Call, starring Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore and Stanley Tucci. The film was presented at the Sundance Film Festival, competed at the Berlinale, and received an Oscar nomination for best screenplay. At the moment, Chandor is involved with the project for A Most Violent Year, which will be released in 2015.

“I felt I could make a very, very compelling, dramatic, thrilling – hopefully – film, but then by the third act you have this very intense emotional experience about a guy essentially coming to grips with his own mortality right in front of your eyes. […] It came to me that the best way to do that was just to have the audience experience what he was going through, so it was shot in a way that you were literally with him.”
