by Jeremy Saulnier

Dwight leads a wretched and solitary life: since he doesn’t have a home to live in, he sleeps in an old Pontiac and makes do with whatever food he can scrounge in the trash dumpsters. When he discovers that the person who brutally murdered his parents – the event which sparked his social deviation – has been released from prison, his desire for revenge becomes an obsession. In order to carry out his gory plan, he has to return to Virginia and come to terms with his past, ready to face and annihilate the man who destroyed his life years earlier.

Declaration

film director

“While I may have been inspired by a complicated mix of emotions that I have about things like mortality and religion and family and American culture, I was strict with myself about focusing on the narrative. The film is not therapy for myself, it’s not a statement on anything – I just want to entertain the audience.”
