David leaves the East Coast and goes to Oregon to spend the summer harvesting apples with his friend Jennifer. But she abandons him in an environment which is decidedly unusual and foreign to the arrogant young man, who comes from a good family. His dealings with his colleagues, some of whom are openly hostile to him, others who are more accommodating, spark an unexpected process of interior growth. In particular, his friendship with Jon, a fervent Protestant who is a prospector of precious gems, will show him a new path his life could take.

“This is a movie, not a biopic. It’s an interpretation and is presented not as a part of the canon of Mr Sedaris’ life but as its own separate thing. I hope it’s clear that the movie’s identity is as much an extension of me as it is Sedaris’ story. Mr Sedaris’ trust is something I did not take lightly and I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to tell this specific story in a way I hope people find intriguing, funny and touching.”
