Declaration

film director

“This film was born of my home-comings, of a passionate impulse and of a long-standing friendship. Initially a documentary about a rehabilitation community, it soon transformed itself into a journey into a world that is unknown to me, merciless and cruel, leavened with flashes of unexpected tenderness. Meeting Antonello, Angelo and Fausto was so overwhelming that it swept away the initial idea of portraying the institution and its therapeutic methods, in favor of describing the men. I was won over by their lives, by the stories of their past, by their strength and fragility, by the harshness that goes in tandem with their care and love for the animals, with whom they share a life of cages and fences. The film is also the story of them putting themselves on the line, with irony and complicity, of our fun times, of switching roles (filming, being filmed) and of a continuous game of exchanged gazes.”
