FLOOD TIDE

FLOOD TIDE
by Todd Chandler
Country: USA
Year: 2013
Duration: 70'

A group of artists and musicians living in a small, post-industrial town chase jobs, struggle with bills, and use art and music to build their own small worlds. When their friend Maya dies, they set out on an extraordinary voyage, unknowingly accompanied by her ghostly presence. While they drift past empty new condo developments, explore crumbling castles, and swim in iridescent quarries, Maya narrates a parallel story about a strange and meandering river that flows both ways.

Biography

film director

Todd Chandler

Todd Chandler is an American filmmaker and musician. Live performance, installation, and site specific events are natural extensions of his films. In 2006 he helped create the The Miss Rockaway Armada, a collective art project that built and navigated large, sculptural junk rafts down the Mississippi River. The voyage led to two more raft projects, including the artist Swoon’s Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea, which took place on the New York’s Hudson River in 2008. It was on this journey that he shot his first feature film, Flood Tide, a work of fiction that uses the rafts and their journey as a centerpiece. Chandler was also a founding member of Dark Dark Dark, one of the emerging bands of the indie music scene in the United States. The band stars in the film and performs the original soundtrack.

FILMOGRAFIA

The Road Becomes What You Leave (doc., 2006), Let Them Believe (cm, 2011), Flood Tide (2013).

Declaration

film director

“The film rings with voices from members of the band Dark Dark Dark, a chorus of friends, and characters met along the river. Together they create a quiet narrative of loss and possibility, river and town, community and isolation, magic and mundane”
