INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS
by Ethan Coen, Joel Coen
Country: USA, France
Year: 2013
Duration: 105'

Llewyn Davis is a folksinger in the early 1960s. He lives in Greenwich Village and wants to present his debut record, Inside Llewyn Davis, to a record producer. His is not an easy life: a penniless drifter, stubborn and cantankerous, Llewyn moves from one apartment to another in the freezing New York winter, dragging behind his guitar, his unsold LPs and a cat named Ulysses. His dream seems about to come true when Llewyn heads to Chicago to audition for the record producer Bud Grossman.

Biography

film director

Ethan Coen

Joel and Ethan Coen (Minneapolis, MN, USA, 1954, 1957), for almost thirty years, have been one of the most important artistic partnerships in the history of cinema. In collaboration and separately, they create, write, produce, direct and edit their films and supervise the music. Occasionally, and only for the sake of convenience, do they divvy up the roles, with Joel directing and Ethan producing. Highly thought of at home and, above all, in Europe (Inside Llewyn Davis won this year’s Grand Jury Prize at Cannes), they have received four Oscars: in 1997 best screenplay for Fargo, and in  2008, with No Country for Old Men, best motion picture, best achievement in directing, and best adapted screenplay.

FILMOGRAFIA

Declaration

film director

“The ambition was that the movie have the real music from the period, but the characters were essentially made up. We took some things from Van Ronk – the fact that he was a working-class kid from the ’burbs who came to the Village, and he was a merchant marine. There’s a book that he wrote, The Mayor of MacDougal Street, which is a very interesting description of that pre-Dylan folk-revival scene in the Village that Van Ronk called ‘the great folk scare’. But there were many aspects of the character that were made up whole cloth, and didn’t have any connection to Van Ronk.”
