LE DÉMANTÈLEMENT

THE DISMANTLING
by Sébastien Pilote
Country: Canada
Year: 2013
Duration: 111'

Even though the farm he owns is called Gagnon & Fils, Gaby doesn’t have any sons – he has two daughters who grew up in the city and couldn’t care less about the countryside. One of his daughters is in the process of leaving her husband and asks Gaby for financial help. Gaby, who doesn’t have the money she needs, doesn’t think twice and does what has to be done for the love of his family. He sells the farm and its fields and moves into an apartment in the nearest town.

Declaration

film director

“When I write, I set certain parameters. In the case of The Dismantlement, I wanted to build a story about a downward journey that would also be a story of heroism – the story of a beautiful loser. I wanted to build the film around a unique character, this time by surrounding him with a constellation of secondary characters. Finally, I wanted Gaby to meet the people close to him in succession, never together, to show that he himself is dismantled in a sense. You’re more creative when you have to work with constraints.”
