When the days repeat themselves in patterned moments and recurring actions (placing the merchandise on shelves, going to school, wandering around under the neon lights of a shopping mall after a day of work), it is difficult to think that things could be different. And that’s how it is for Makis (the owner of a small shop that sells a little bit of everything), Jimmy (who goes to a private school), and Maria (a lawyer in her thirties). But people’s lives, even the most insignificant, always hide something.

Michalis Konstantatos
Michalis Konstantatos (Athenes, Greece, 1977) studied directing at the Stavrakos Film School, sociology at university, and has a master’s degree in architecture. He has been directing since 2002, making music videos and experimental movies. He co-founded and directs the theater company Punto Cieco, putting on stage comedies and making installations inside public places, writing and directing two short films, which won awards in several international film festivals. Luton is his first feature film.

“By looking at various people around me and their everyday life, I began noticing that more and more they tend to lead increasingly fixed lives. Lives that suppress them and give rise to certain pathogenic behaviours. At the same time various outbursts of violence and illicit behaviour become more and more frequent everywhere. Most of the times these are unprovoked and come from people that no one would expect to.”
