Keinosuke has never been tranquil, not even as a child. He suffers from sudden and devastating attacks of anguish, which block any reaction or positive impulse of his. When he meets Jun, who experienced psychological pain when she was abandoned by her parents, he feels that he can construct a loving relationship based on reciprocal understanding and, for the first time in his life, even a family. But often just wanting something isn’t enough.

Atsushi Shinohara
Atsushi Shinohara (Fukuoka, Japan, 1983) was born in Fukuoka and grew up in Nagasaki. He has worked as an actor with Yoshikatsu Kimura in Karate Girl, with Shuichi Okita in A Story of Yonosuke, and with Ryosuke Hashiguchi in Zen Yai. Sceneries of New Beginnings, the first installment of a series of upcoming works, marks his debut as a director.

“Sometimes in life, an unknown suffering attacks overnight. An overwhelming darkness gradually grows in a man’s heart as a woman dedicates herself to supporting him even though she doesn’t understand his suffering. The audience is constantly confronted with their isolation in life, their psychological connection, and their stubbornness using repetitive imagery, which I fixed from angles to illustrate the tremendous love this man and woman share. The story dances on the line of reality and fantasy, asking the audience what is real.”
