The Edge of the Universe
A Rainbow Above Us

Where did Tui, the pregnant twelve-year old that survived an attempted suicide, go? It is a difficult case for detective Robin Griffin, who recently got back to the United States from her native New Zealand. To solve it she will have to venture into the remote town of Laketop, where Matt (Tui’s father and local mobster boss) reigns undisputed. She will break the code of silence, revealing the unmentionable secrets of the small community, but she will also have to confront unexpected and long-forgotten fragments from her path. This TV miniseries produced by BBC (aired in seven 50-minute episodes) marks Jane Champion’s television production debut.

Declaration

film director

“I’m really interested in concepts like paradise. […] A lot of people move to this area in the hope of making themselves happy but of course there is no such thing as paradise, not on earth – our minds drive us crazy wherever we are. The closer you get to the so-called ideal, the more painful it is because it doesn’t work.” (Jane Campion)
