WRONG COPS

WRONG COPS
by Quentin Dupieux
Country: France, USA
Year: 2013
Duration: 82'

The wild-eyed, but nevertheless ridiculous, daily life of a group of cops who, in an unusually surreal Los Angeles, do everything possible to misbehave, giving full rein to their worst instincts and being the first to break the law. When somebody dies (a neighbor who was killed by mistake), the situation seems to be out of control. What with blackmail, improbable alliances and bizarre situations, the ending could only be funny. The soundtrack is by the king of electronic music, Mr Oizo, the alter ego of director Quentin Dupieux.

Quentin Dupieux

(Paris, France, 1974), better known as Mr Oizo, is a world-famous DJ and producer, known for his hit Flat Beat, which originated from his collaboration with Levi’s, for which he shot a series of popular ads in 1999. He debuted as a director with the medium-length movie Nonfilm (2002), which revealed his particular taste for the absurd and the nonsense that also characterized his next movies, Steak (2007) and above all Rubber (2010), presented at the Semaine de la critique in Cannes. His feature film Wrong (2012) participated at the 2012 Torino Film Festival. One of the most appreciated comic directors, his films premiered in Cannes (Le Daim, 2019, Fumer fait tousser, 2022), Venezia (Mandibules, 2020), and Berlin (Incroyable mais vrai, 2022).

Declaration

film director

“We shot the first chapter, the first thirty minutes with Marilyn Manson. It was not supposed to be a movie, it was supposed to be a small short film to promote my music. But then we loved it and everyone was so excited about it we decided to shoot more. But then I realized if I shot seven more episodes it would be a movie. It became a movie; it’s a chapter movie but it’s a movie.”
