Zach is emotionally devastated when his girlfriend Beth suddenly dies. He is burdened by memories of the girl he loved so much, and by regret for all the things they weren’t able to do together, and the projects they hadn’t been able to carry out. When Beth – almost miraculously – returns from the dead, Zach is amazed. Jeff Baena
Jeff Baena (Miami, FL, USA, 1977) lives in Los Angeles and studied film production at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He began as a screenwriter and wrote the comedy I Heart Huckabees (2004), directed by David O. Russell and starring Jason Schwartzman, Isabelle Huppert, Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Jude Law, Mark Wahlberg and Naomi Watts. Life After Beth is his first feature film.

“I wasn’t trying to subvert the genre, I wasn’t approaching it as a zombie or genre film; I was approaching it as a relationship film that was dealing with a zombie. The emotional trajectory of the movie mirrors going through a break up. I was just attracted to the idea that creates that much cognitive dissonance but at the same time is emotional and funny and heartbreaking and kind of absurd.”
