THOU WAST MILD AND LOVELY

THOU WAST MILD AND LOVELY
by Josephine Decker
Country: USA
Year: 2014
Duration: 78'

Akin shows up at one of the farms that dot the endless fields of Kentucky. Leaving behind his wife and son, he has taken off his wedding ring and is in search of a summer job. He is taken in by Jeremiah, a pater familias with a domineering temperament, and his daughter Sarah, a sensual and perverse woman. A mechanism of reciprocal observation develops between the three, made of furtive glances and questions that often aren’t answered. When the attraction between Akin and Sarah ignites, the two lovers are struck by an inexplicable feeling of menace. The man’s wife shows up, transforming what until then had been an innocent game into a nightmare with unexpected contours.

Declaration

film director

“With this film, I have been groping at a truth – about how we can be bad, or we can be good, or we can both at the exact same time. And with that truth, I tried to build a cinematic experience that melded fantasy and reality in an erotically-charged, meekly joyous experience.”
