TOUS LES CHATS SONT GRIS

ALL CATS ARE GREY
by Savina DELLICOUR
Country: Belgium
Year: 2014
Duration: 84'

Paul is in his forties; he is a detective and by choice lives on the margins of Brussels’ conformist bourgeoisie, where instead his daughter Dorothy has been brought up by her new family. Paul has never met his daughter, except for the moments when he watches her from a distance, without ever daring to approach her. She doesn’t know anything about him and this state of affairs could go on forever. But one day Dorothy decides to discover who her real father is, and she turns to Paul to conduct the investigation.

Declaration

film director

“I grew up in Uccle, the residential neighborhood in Brussels where the film takes place. When I happen to pass through there, I still have contradictory feelings about it… Comforting memories mixed with a sense of rising anxiety. In the small upper middle class world I grew up in, some things were simply not talked about. Behind nicely kept facades, something was hidden; dark secrets were burdening the atmosphere. It’s often as if people believe that by burying something in silence they will make it go away. We don’t help our loved ones by protecting them from the questions they fear. When directing I look for both authenticity and emotions, for they are the access to an audience’s heart.”
