ANTONIA

During the 1920s, Antonia Pozzi studies at Manzoni high school in Milan. She looks like an upper-class girl but her gaze betrays an unusual, intimate and feverish perspective onto the world. She transfers her hopeless love for her former professor into the photographs she takes and the pages she has written over the past ten years: a period rich in excursions to the peaks of Valsassina, encounters with friends, lovers and professors, always suspended on the fine line between art and life, which Antonia has decided to interrupt too soon. 

“Luca Guadagnino loves the poetry of Antonia Pozzi and has always wanted to produce a movie about her. He talked to me about it thinking that she and I would ‘meet.’ I am completely fascinated by artists and when I read Antonia’s poems I felt a strong affinity with her in those pages. Then, by studying her in depth and getting to know the context and the places of her life – from Milan to the surroundings mountains – I understood what a great opportunity I had to create, through cinema, the portrait of an artist and her art.”
