John Wells
John Wells (Alexandria, VA, USA, 1956) graduated in theater from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and then received his master’s degree in film and television at the University of Southern California. He has produced many successful TV series, including ER, for which he won an Emmy Award in 1996; West Wing, which won him four Emmy Awards between 1999 and 2003. In films, he produced movies such as Far from Heaven (Todd Haynes, 2002), The Good Thief (Neil Jordan, 2002), Party Monster (Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, 2003), A Dirty Shame (John Waters, 2004), The Company (Robert Altman, 2003) and I’m Not There (Todd Haynes, 2007). He has directed two successful movies, The Company Men (2010) and August: Osage County (2013).

“The world of film and that of cooking are environments which generate huge pressure and require long preparation periods. You have to do everything right or else you expose yourself to deep economic problems. No one does it all alone and you need to work in unison, trusting in each other. It’s like a choreography, in which everyone has to know where to be and where the others are. It’s the same on a movie set. There’s the same spirit of brotherhood, like every place where you work hard. Everyone is very strict in there but when work’s over you’re united once again. Either you love the kitchen or you get out of it right away.”
