Three Romanian women, caregivers: Ana, Elena, Micaela. They have been in Italy for a while but only one, Micaela, is employed. Ana and Elena have lost their jobs and can’t find employment; they will have to return home to the families they are supporting from a distance and haven’t seen for a long time. Micaela, the youngest and most astute of the three, decides to help her two friends and begins a journey with them through the tight network of Romanian communities in Italy, in search of a possible job. For the three women, this is an opportunity to break the rules of daily life and forge a relationship of complicity and friendship. This journey is a discovery of a world that is hazy, elusive, multifaceted, partly secret, balanced between their love for and rejection of a homeland, tradition and political ideology which raised them and whose collapse forced them to flee abroad.

Elisabetta Sgarbi
(Ferrara, Italy) is the creator and director of the publishing house La nave di Teseo. She created and for nineteen years has been the artistic director of the festival La Milanesiana, dedicated to literature, music, cinema, science, art, philosophy, and theatre. Since 1999 she has been the director and producer of her films, which were often presented at the Torino Film Festival.
