COMOARA

TREASURE
by Corneliu Porumboiu
Country: Romania, France
Year: 2015
Duration: 89'

Costi is a model father who reads his son a bedtime story every evening. One day, his neighbor Adrian rings the doorbell and tells him a secret. It seems that some wealthy ancestors of his have buried an actual treasure in the garden of a villa outside Bucharest and that the time has come to dig it up. “All” they need are 800 euros to rent the necessary equipment and a little bit of patience. Costi doesn’t have that much money but he somehow manages to scrape it together. This is the beginning of a friendship between him and Adrian which will have unexpected and tragicomic consequences.

Declaration

film director

“During the first part of the film, which takes place in the city, through shots and reverse-angle shots I wanted to show in detail the exchanges between the people and their limitations. In the second part, when they are searching for the treasure, I preferred to concentrate on Costi’s point of view. The spectator enters the garden with him and follows him through all his peregrinations. I wanted to give the impression that Costi is lost inside an infinite garden and, along with him, I hope the spectator gets lost, too.”
