HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS

HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS
by Michael Showalter
Country: USA
Year: 2015
Duration: 95'

After her mother passes away, sixty-year-old Doris takes a self-help seminar where she learns not to neglect the romantic side of life, but to pursue it wholeheartedly. She finds any way to connect with her young neighbor: she starts going to electronic music concerts, to hipster cafés, and into the beating heart of Brooklyn’s social scene. Doris is like a fish out of water, but her authentic retro charm helps her become popular among local hipsters. At the expense, however, of her loved ones.

Declaration

film director

“Laura Terroso was a student at NYU. She wasn’t in my classes. I saw her film in one of the short film festivals. I just thought it was really funny. We kind of became friends and started talking about writing something together. Then we worked on a bunch of different ideas and then came back around to what if we took the Doris short and turned it into a feature? […] I liked the main character, the Doris character. It felt like a really interesting comedic protagonist.”
