HIGH-RISE
by Ben Wheatley
Country: UK
Year: 2015
Duration: 112'

United Kingdom, 1975. Dr Robert Laing has moved into a new condominium in search of tranquility that verges on isolation and anonymity. But his new neighbors don’t see things the same way and involve him in a network of relationships he has to adapt himself to for some peace and quiet. The residents’ life is dominated by the dynamics of well-delineated social classes and an underlying, no-holds-barred struggle for power. Trapped within these mechanisms, Laing begins to lose contact with reality. At the same time, the building begins to show signs of structural instability, with frequent breakdowns that put the condominium’s inhabitants to the test.

Declaration

film director

“We shot with Alexa. We had big conversations about whether things should be shot in a period fashion. We ended up with the decision that it is a bit of a pose. We are now. It isn’t a film from the past. It’s something that is happening in this moment. I like digital and it allows me to shoot a lot more.”
