IL SUCCESSORE

THE SUCCESSOR
by Mattia Epifani
Country: Italy
Year: 2015
Duration: 52'

Vito Alfieri Fontana is an engineer and the former owner of Tecnovar, a company in Puglia that designs and sells landmines. He is going through a deep existential crisis, questioning himself, his work and his relationship with his family, in particular his father. One question haunts him: how many victims has Tecnovar caused? The answer takes on disturbing contours for the engineer, but it is also the starting point of a journey to the former war zones of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where squads of deminers are still at work.

Declaration

film director

“In his dark journey, this man divided in two – a prisoner of the conflict between duty and conscience – crosses Bosnia, which has been disfigured by the drama of the landmines, fully realizing that his inner conflict will remain unresolved. The parabola of Vito Alfieri Fontana is not the classic one of redemption, but rather the tormented trip of a man who has repudiated himself in order to give himself a second chance, carrying out a lucid exercise in self-control to keep at bay that sleeping part of himself which would still like to sit down at the drawing table.”
