INTERRUPTION

INTERRUPTION
by Yorgos Zois
Country: Greece
Year: 2015
Duration: 90'

The postmodern adaptation of a Greek tragedy is about to be performed in a theater in Athens. Like every evening, the spectators have taken their seats and are waiting for the show to begin. Suddenly, the lights go out and the stage is invaded by a group of young people dressed in black and carrying weapons. They ask forgiveness for the interruption and invite the audience to join them in the performance. Who are these people? Are they part of the production or is there something real and disturbing about their invasion? In a crescendo of tension and doubts, the play continues, upending the terms of the discussion: this time, life is imitating art and not the other way round.

Declaration

film director

“Interruption is a film about a hostage situation that differs from all the rest; there are no cops, no negotiations, no public opinion watching from the sidelines. It’s a hostage situation without the hostages realizing it. From my point of view, this situation resembles that of our own lives; we too are hostages of the spectacle in front of us.”
