A daughter is wracked with guilt and dealing with the memory of a country. A girl, spokesperson for what happened. In her childhood memories, her native country is divided. In the fragments of her glance there is a deep sense of not belonging. Declaration

film director

“Giovanni is the town fool; he is a distant father and a featureless form in her memories. Taormina is the landing place, with its verbal abuses, rebuilt by a country’s memory, without filters between the narrator that is unaware of being observed, and the listener. The camera is like an extension of the body, it doesn’t create distance, it accentuates what cannot be seen: distant landscapes, seen as places of non-belonging, particles of childhood memories. The home where she grew up, her father’s grave – a fool’s grave –that is never seen, maybe he is unknown, there are no traces of his face, but he lived his last happy moments between those walls.”
