Tamburi, the most polluted district in Italy, where Taranto’s ILVA has been created and where Cosimo, Tonino and Giuseppe, Resta brothers, have always lived. Lives torn between seaside and factory work, between fear for health and endless love for the land where they were born.

Declaration

film director

“I remember the first trip to Taranto. It was night. The enormous lights from ILVA shone in the darkness […]. But what was even more striking of the massive steel monster was its breath: that rancid, sweet-and-sour smell that got stuck in my virgin throat. The dust has been eroding for years the houses, the people, the lands, the olive groves, the fruit trees, turning everything into dust. But underneath it all, there is still a spark in the eyes of the Resta family. A form of anthropologic resistance that sinks its roots deep into an almost ancestral past. After sixty years of destruction that turned the land into something like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion, history assigned them the role of starting over with the only thing left: the sense of community, an almost tribal community, non-corrodible, healthy.”
