A visual narrative into the heart of the United States with the filmmaker from Torino Stefano Galli. His only companion throughout the journey: a 16mm camera. From Florida to California, passing through Texas, Ohio, Minnesota, Montana, coming across a series unique characters met by chance along the way and captured on film with their expressions and mannerisms.

Stefano Galli
Stefano Galli (Modena, 1981) studied cinema at the University of Torino. He then moved to Copenhagen, where he worked with Lars Von Trier’s production company Zentropa while continuing his studies at the school of art and photography Fatamorgana. Lamerica marks his directorial debut.

“As a child in Italy, I was influenced by everything American. When I finally moved to the States, what I discovered was a varied landscape and multitude of characters I hadn’t met in the films and TV of my youth. In an effort to process my new environment, I set out on a solo voyage across the US. I’m motivated by my restless curiosity and an impulse to document my experiences and chance encounters, landscapes and minute details of everyday life in America. Have I captured the humor and the sadness and disappointment that I encountered in middle America?”
