Olivia Molnàr
Olivia Molnàr has been surrounded by the world of theater and art since childhood: both her Italian mother and Hungarian father are actors and playwrights. She studied visual and performing arts in Venice for her first three years of university, then moved to Belgium in 2013 for a graduate degree in narration and animation at the École de recherche graphique (ERG). She currently lives and works in Brussels. Le dossier de Mari S. is her first short, which she made during this past school year.

“The idea for Le dossier de Mari S. came from a trip I took to Budapest in search of my family’s past, before they migrated to Italy in the early 1960s. Budapest has changed since then, the street names are different, the city seems anxious to forget its recent past. It was only in the pages of the socialist regime’s secret archive that I found the echo of the stories I’d been listening to ever since I was a little girl. As I traced back the steps of my family’s escape from Hungary to Italy, it turned into a reflection on the concepts of heritage, collective memory, and oblivion.”
