ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL

ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL
by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon
Country: USA
Year: 2015
Duration: 105'

Greg has a strategy: do everything to possible to be invisible and let his high school years slip by. This tactic calls for red herrings, sudden getaways and, in his case, an ally: Earl. The two spend their time making parodies of film classics and avoiding all contact with schoolmates and any form of adolescent. Everything seems to be going smoothly until Greg’s mother steps in and orders him to make friends with Olivia, a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer.

Declaration

film director

“The script was funny in an unusual and unpredictable way, as well as refreshingly honest. At first, it reminded me of the wonderful John Hughes movies I grew up on, but then it very gently took an unexpected turn and became so much more than just a comedy. I had just lost my father and I felt that if I could make this film, it would be a way for me to express my own personal losses and transform them through humor.”
