MIA MADRE FA L'ATTRICE

A mother who is an exuberant, if not downright cumbersome presence (and then some), and a son who is a director and occasionally still blocked by her. Cinema becomes a way to find a rapport, perhaps even thanks to the woman’s past as an actress. She was an actress for a brief and not particularly memorable season: except for one film, in which, sixty years before, the woman had played her most important role and which, through the irony of fate, she never got to see. A gap which her son will fill. 

“My mother and I have one thing in common: we both left a bunch of things unfinished. But no, I’m wrong! We have another thing in common: cinema. I got my confusion between what’s real and what’s fake from her. My mother was an actress until she turned twenty-five. A few roles, minor ones, except for the last one in Barrier of the Law, with Rossano Brazzi; in the beginning she was supposed to have four scenes. But even that was left finished. One of the producers, who she rejected, had some of the scenes cut during the editing and so she left the set before it was finished, without seeing the final result… And she’d never seen it! Until now.”
