With the burial niches of a cemetery as a backdrop, the lives of three middle-aged women intersect; their names are Nora, Aurora and Olimpia. An old maid, a divorcee and a widow: three lives suspended between resignation and waiting. Three lives that risk necrosis. During a night-time vigil organized by the cemetery, illuminated by votive lights and a neon sign that says “Rest in peace,” the three women become the protagonists of a phantasmagorical mise-en-scène of their respective and very personal anxieties.

Declaration

film director

“Morituri is the third part of a trilogy composed of two other films produced by the company I Cammelli: Old Women (2002), with Barbara Valmorin, and Mitraglia e il verme (2004), with Antonello Fassari and Stefano Corsi. I wanted to show the contemporary human condition, represented by three characters at the limits of the surreal. Each character carries around her own story and her own solitude, and ends up in a suspended and abstract dimension which makes the story universal and timeless.”
