NACIMIENTO

When the rainy season begins Helena’s baby shall be born. Her adoptive mother and brother collect food and wood in the jungle preparing for the coming weeks of rain and maternity. Other people fish and harvest, and in the midst of these ordinary actions emerge stories of pain and solitude, and also dreams from long-gone times. They all live imprisoned in the course of a beautiful and heartless nature. In the day of rest they all accompany the birth. The rain begins. Life continues.

“Nacimiento for me waves around the idea of creation of life as the result of clashing forces. There’s the birth of a baby in a family with no genetic bonds, in a fictional isolated community where all persons go through solitude and pain. We are in a small society without patriarchs, where innocent people try to go on with their lives that they cannot influence. The arrival of the new-born without a father talks essentially about the inevitability of life. But it also gives a small light for redemption and hope.”
