Orpheus makes his way back from the Underworld without Eurydice and thus finds himself in the world of the living. A place torn apart by sorrows similar to his own. A new hell, white, surrounded by tall walls carved into the marble. Orpheus will have to confront nature, his memories, and himself. His journey between Ukraine to the caves of Carrara will also be a journey into the minds of the protagonists of this modern myth and into our own.

Declaration

film director

“Neuf cordes is an attempt to give a timeless dimension to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. By combining scenes with fiction into a documentary, I tried to remove Orpheus from his mythological context in order to address the basic issues affecting our time, which the myth itself underscores […]. Orpheus is someone looking for something, for someone, asking himself questions; he wants to go beyond the inaccessible and what’s allowed. Like Medea, he dares to challenge the established rules to honor an ethical and moral principle. He doesn’t surrender when he loses his happiness, he digs in. Similarly, the actors interpreted their roles, their Orpheus.”
