POD ELECTRICHESKIMI OBLAKAMI

UNDER ELECTRIC CLOUDS
by Alexey German Jr.
Country: Russia, Ukraine, Poland
Year: 2015
Duration: 130'

After returning from abroad, Sasha visits the construction site he and his sister inherited after their father’s death. In the meantime, an immigrant worker is looking for his colleagues; an architect’s forehead is covered by bright red skin, and then there’s a tourist guide who was a hero at the time of Yeltsin’s revolution. A young student asks, “Who are we? Who am I? Everything is chaotic.” Seven episodes tell the story of a country.

Declaration

film director

“We live in big cities but for some reason we pretend that they don’t exist. For some reason we isolate part of our lives from the connotations of reality. There are particular situations that exist as part of a certain kind of life in Moscow, with clubs and girls in sparkly evening dresses — this life lends itself to aestheticisation, but nobody has noticed this. […] A global war is happening and it will continue to happen. But for me, cinema is not a newspaper. It is not a mouthpiece of perestroika. This is not a concert on Police Day. For me, this is an attempt to tell you about some important things.”
