PRIMA CHE LA VITA CAMBI NOI

PRIMA CHE LA VITA CAMBI NOI
by Felice Pesoli
Country: Italy
Year: 2015
Duration: 80'

In February 1967, the prefect of Milan wrote: “These young people increasingly made their appearance, these so-called “longhairs” […]. Their political leaning is primarily anarchic libertarian; others are inspired by non-violence, by conscience objectors. They say they use their brain against every form of bourgeois paternalism, they reject the family with all its obligations and sexual repressions.” The film portrays the birth of the young people’s counter-culture during the period leading up to 1968. The other face of the movement – often neglected by historical narration – which rejected violence and preferred the beat generation and the hippy movement to Marxism.

Declaration

film director

“‘Let’s change life, before life changes us’ was the slogan coined in the early 1970s by the counter-culture magazine ‘Re Nudo.’ This was a way to say that to change the world you don’t have to wait for the ‘sun of the future’ after having taken the ‘winter palace;’ it’s a way of saying that we must change our own way of living by putting ourselves on the line right away, with all the existential radicalism we’re capable of.”
