SOPHELIKOPTERN

THE GARBAGE HELICOPTER
by Jonas Selberg Augustsen
Country: Sweden, Qatar
Year: 2015
Duration: 100'

An elderly Roma woman is restless: she misses her old wall clock, which has been at the clockmaker’s for repairs for over a year. The only solution is to call her three grandchildren who live up north, over a thousand kilometres away, and make them promise they will bring her back her precious clock. So the three young men set off on a journey that will take them down Sweden’s long winding highways. Meanwhile, a helicopter carrying an enormous dumpster accidentally drops its load of garbage on the ground.

Declaration

film director

“In working on the film I have been very interested to see what happens if you take the classic dramaturgical tools available and turn the dramatic levels down to an absolute minimum.
I would like to point out that by that I do not mean that dramaturgy is bad and should be rejected. Far from it. The script has been written with a deep fascination and a genuine interest in the notion of dramaturgy. Not the other way around. I have been very interested in a paradox I’ve found in narrative art: what you tell, can also be about what you don’t tell...”
