Alejandro Iglesias Mendizábal
Alejandro Iglesias Mendizábal (Mexico City, Mexico, 1983) studied theatre at the Universidad nacional autónoma de México and later film at the Centro de capacitación cinematográfica and at FAMI International Academy in Prague. His short Contrafábula de una niña disecada, his graduating project, was selected in 2013 for the Cinéfondation in Cannes and received numerous prizes and recognitions throughout the world. He also works as a director and film editor for TV and advertising. Sopladora de hojas is his debut feature film.

“Leaf Blower seeks to reflect everyday life, as time slowly passes by and ‘almost nothing is going on’... But deep down, it is also a great adventure; the final battle that Lucas, Emilio and Rubén must overcome to defeat the doubts and anxieties of growing up. My idea is to subtly show the viewer how a single moment can be decisive for the rest of our lives; suggesting that there is always a way out of the fears which haunts us, that there’s always the possibility to give ourselves a new chance. The film is lightly spirited, anchored between comedy and realism. Little details that are sprinkled here and there, such as the strange characters that suddenly appear in the park, the suspicious coincidences, all adding up to the story to become a weird contemporary epic.”
